I am Roger Quon – Running for Village Trustee

Roger Quon

I believe a good trustee will listen broadly, think critically, argue graciously and communicate plainly. I hope to preserve a Rhinebeck that is vital and open, giving and independent.

About Roger Quon

My wife, Maria, and I discovered Rhinebeck on a frosty winter day just over 20 years ago.  The village charmed us, and we decided shortly after to start our family here.  We count ourselves beyond blessed to be raising our two children in the giving and independent spirit of Rhinebeck.

This spirit shines through our participation in our community organizations and events. I have been happy to contribute over the years, from coaching youth soccer to organizing RSF Discovery Festivals to briefly serving as an EMT in our Fire Department.

Last Fall I found myself contributing in a very different and unexpected way; I became a community activist. I stepped forward to challenge a Board resolution to abolish the Village Court. My action was reflexive, spontaneous. I felt a need to preserve the Court because I believe who we elect as Justice reflects who we are – compassionate and fair.

Through this activism, I met John Rossi. Together, we joined Judge William Sanchez to ensure our Village had a voice in determining whether the Village Court should remain part of our civic fabric.  I was heartened and touched by the many people who recognized the value of the Court, and care about having Judge Sanchez reflect our values when administering justice.

During this effort it became clear we lack a local forum to discuss common concerns, share ideas and act communally. So, the idea to create Rhinebeck Common was born. I initially planned for Rhinebeck Common to be a community forum, but then realized voices need advocates in government. I hope to be your voice and advocate as a Village Trustee.

As a Trustee, I will listen broadly, think critically, argue graciously and communicate plainly.  I will use my operational, problem solving and management experience to help the Village manage its responsibilities. I hope to preserve a Rhinebeck that is vital and open, giving and independent.  I will work with you to grow Rhinebeck in a way that honors its best traditions and values.
